Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer, with a Mechanical bias, to join a progressive and expanding business who invents new technology that converts RF signals into light. This client makes a range of products and systems that transport RF signals over fibre optic networks, as well as designing RF equipment and other technologies, such as antennas and software defined radios. The products are used in satellite ground stations, broadcast applications, data centres, testing environments and secure communications networks, amongst others. One part of the company sells products into a range of high power and physics applications. They are also designing new products for efficient power conversion as needed in the evolving renewable energy sector.

This is a permanent post, working Monday to Friday, requiring on site presence with 1 day (hybrid) working from home. The role offers an extremely attractive salary, personal development programme and an excellent employee benefits scheme.

The role of Design Engineer expects the right candidate to have Degree Level Education in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with at least 5 years previous, relevant design and mechanical engineering experience. As the role is part of the wider expanding engineering team, you will be fully involved in the development and design of telecommunications and defence solution products, forging ahead with the electrification insurgence to a global market.

You will be included in a variety of high profile, high value projects encompassing the development of new product concepts, modelling and analysis, full project management collaboration, working with product engineering and systems. You will naturally assess the functionalities and continuous improvement of the engineering department's capability plus deliver consistent and articulated reporting and communication between all key stakeholders, key contracts, and internal teams.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you experience and expertise will be recognised as 'best in class' when developing new and complex products using 3D CAD packages, the ability to perform critical testing of such products during all engineering and pre-manufacturing stages. The need to evidence a strong track record in quality management performance and process, coupled with regulatory compliance management is key to the success and placement of this position. Your previous practical mechanical, electrical design skills will prove truly valuable and will help enhance product knowledge and understanding for the wider team, especially as there is an element of managing people and specific engineering activities.
