Thrive Oldham are recruiting on behalf of our well-established client in the Blaenavon area a Product Metallurgist
Job Purpose: |
Primary responsibly is for metallurgical compliance. Additional duties include metallurgical design, development and analysis of the product to ensure material properties achieve specification for the customer. Redevelopment for identifying potential opportunities for product/process development and implementing through structured projects. There are shared responsibilities with the other metallurgists for which Primary and Secondary responsibilities are defined below. The role is also responsible for technical management of the product portfolio as part of the technical team, assessing product performance through data collection that may be used for improvement, development, etc. |
Principle Accountabilities: |
|
· Interpretation of customer requirements and specifications for inclusion with product processing route and release criteria |
·Responsible for metallurgical development for forged products |
·Optimization of thermomechanical manufacturing routes to provide product conformity and cost reduction where possible |
·Generation of metallurgical process instructions for Forging & Heat Treatment to obtain a metallurgical compliant product |
·Technical Responsibility for Heat Treatment Processes and Development |
·Creation and approval of process data cards forging & heat treatment processes |
·Maintain SPC data to determine product performance and identify opportunities for development |
·Design & approval of manufacturing routes to obtain compliant metallurgical products |
·Point of contact and knowledge leader for metallurgical and product testing (mechanical & metallurgical) release within the business |
·Lead for metallurgical investigations, providing corrective actions and future preventative solutions |
·Development of manufacturing control to ensure product quality for the customer |
·Requirement to collaborate with colleagues for customer and regulatory bodies process audits |
·Collaborate with Laboratory and external Test Houses for testing and product assessment requirements |
·Responsible for creation of documents, manuals, and reports in support of customer liaison and internal processing |
·Ensure adherence to manufacturing quality standard |
·Identify possible avenues for collaboration and development of internal processes with outside parties |
·Maintain knowledge of metallurgical developments within industry and academia |
·Manage the Technical requirement for specific product-based projects as and when required |
·Shared responsibility for the Technical Management of Closed & Open Die Forged products portfolio, routing, methods, cost, technical administration, etc. |
·Shared responsibility for Technical Contract Review / Order Acceptance |
Essential Experience/ Qualifications |
·Degree/ Masters / PhD qualified in Metallurgy or Materials Science and Engineering. |
·Experienced with forging, thermomechanical processing, heat treatment, and release testing |
·Experience of working within a highly regulated manufacturing industry (e.g. Alloy Processing, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Automotive, etc.) |
·Exposure of working with Nickel, Steels, Stainless Steels, Titanium and Aluminum alloy systems. |

Salary Competitive
Monday to Thursday 8am - 4.30pm
Friday 8am - 1.00pm
