Quality Manager

Thive Oldham are recruiting on behalf of our well established Manufacturing client in South Wales a Quality Manager

Overview

You will be required to manage all functions within the quality department and on occasions requested to support other activities within the business. This position requires flexibility and adaption to change towards continuous improvement, whilst working with other departments in a teamwork environment. There will be a requirement to project manage and control processes and documentation to international and customer standards/specifications. Periodically you may be requested to travel to support the business.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Perform system, process and supplier audits.
  • Conduct regular quality review meetings.
  • Driving daily Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) KPI's ensuring they're in line with all targets whilst developing the overall GMP standards.
  • Ensuring corrective action is met and communicated through the factory teams if needed.
  • Proactively communicating information to the business at all levels on technical performance.
  • Manage system and product audits from external bodies and customers.
  • Support and guide the team with customer complains / returns / process issues using 8D analysis techniques to determine root cause, corrective and prevention actions.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers where problems are related to quality issues.
  • Plan and drive quality continuous improvement activities within the business.
  • Support other members of the quality department (i.e. Quality Technician / Quality Assistant) as and when required e.g. during holiday, sickness periods…etc.
  • Support the collation of certification to customer requirements, supporting any follow up to the customers' requests.
  • Maintenance of databases and records processed within the quality department.
  • On occasions, you will be required to project manage projects to customer or business requirements.
  • Perform calibration and maintain the records of inspection equipment on an annual basis. The equipment will cover verniers, micrometers, height gauges…etc.
  • Support the welding requirements of the business i.e. Qualifications and weld procedures.
  • Collation of FAIR's, PPAP, SVPP, ISIR...etc to customers' requirements.

Skills:

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification.
  • Experience in a quality management role is essential.
  • Proven experience in a senior quality engineering role.
  • Ability to lead, train, mentor and influence.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 and AS9100.
  • Ability to lead investigations and improvement activities within different areas of the business.
  • Proven experience of implementing lean and continual improvement tools such as 8D; 5S; Kaizen and Visual Management.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiar in the use of problem-solving tolls, e.g., 8D.
  • Supporting customer and third-party audits.
  • PC literate with a good working knowledge of Windows based applications.
  • Ability to produce professional documents and standard operating procedures.
