Job Description

This leading utility infrastructure provider is seeking an experienced Design Manager on a permanent, full-time basis (hybrid working available), someone who can evidence a minimum of 5 year's experience gained in the same role/same sector. Based in the South Yorkshire region, you will be responsible for leading the design team to understand all design requirements, training and upskilling across all design competencies. As Design Manager you will need to work closely with the design team to determine current levels of design knowledge, administration complex training plans including help from external technical design training providers to ensure that the team operates to optimum design skill levels. Experience may be evident in gas, electricity and lighting, water and sewage, telecoms in/on roads, commercial/residential estates. There is a need to develop and implement an apprenticeship/graduate training programme aimed at attracting and retaining the next generation of designers, working closely with all team members to assess and mentor throughout the scheme. We are seeking a confident and experienced Designer with CAD/AutoCAD/3D modelling and knowledge of BIM.

Naturally, we are looking for a Design Manager who can demonstrate working with and training teams, someone who is accredited in line with utility industry standards and regulations, perhaps with a Degree in Civil Engineering/Design, with a clear and strong understanding of the utility network processes, utility specification and relevant governance. Responsible for supporting team members throughout the pre-construction design stage, through to post-acceptance in line with business and statutory utility sector requirements.

The overall objective is to increase the knowledge, skill and understanding of designers choosing to facilitate and develop a lifelong career in utility infrastructure design, therefore your communication skills are key to the success of this post.
