School Caretaker

Job Description

Thrive Oldham are recruiting for a School Caretaker in the Oldham area

Hours of work 7.30am - 9.30am then 2.30pm - 4.30pm Monday to Friday

To provide a welcoming and safe environment for all school users to ensure the security of buildings and contents, to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and undertake porterage and handyperson duties.

1.

Be responsible for opening up and closing of the school and providing a welcoming high-quality customer service and safe environment for the school.

2.

Be responsible for the security of the premises and its contents (including the operation of fire and burglar alarms, fire warden and key-holder responsibilities).

3.

Monitor CCTV cameras and take any necessary action.

4.

Undertake caretaking duties at the school as required including daily building checks and recording the outcomes.

5.

Be responsible for lighting, heating and cleaning of premises including maintenance and operation of plant and to clean and maintain vending machines.

6.

Undertake porterage and handyperson duties, general maintenance, DIY and minor repairs.

7.

Be responsible for the replacement of consumables e.g. paper towels, toilet rolls etc.

8.

Receive and check deliveries of goods.

9.

Undertake other duties including:

(a) preparing rooms for classes, including setting up furniture and equipment.

(b) Support with other activities, e.g. celebrations;

10.

Keep the outside of the building tidy and ensure drains are clear of rubbish.

11.

Undertake such other duties which may arise from the use of the premises, including all health and safety duties as deemed necessary by the Senior Management Team

12.

Complete all necessary paperwork in line with Service/Council policies.

13.

All duties must be carried out to comply with:

(i) The Health and Safety at Work Act.

(ii) Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements.

(iii) Nationally agreed Codes of Practice which are relevant.

Education & Qualifications

Sufficient ICT, Digital, Literacy & Numeracy skills to undertake the tasks and duties of the role

Current First Aid at Work Certificate or willingness to complete within 6 months

Experience

Experience of working on own initiative

Experience of working as a member of the team

Skills & Abilities

Ability to understand data sheets and refer to these when using cleaning materials and cleaning equipment

Ability to undertake porterage and handyperson duties e.g. small decorating tasks, changing door locks & putting up shelves

Ability to set up rooms and equipment in line with health and safety regulations

Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the community

Ability to write up all relevant paperwork e.g. incident reports

Ability to provide refreshments and stock take supplies

Digital and ICT skills including sending emails, using the internet and uploading outcomes of daily checks onto web log

Customer care skill

Knowledge

An understanding of the need for security in a building

An awareness of the requirements of the caretaker role within schools, e.g. lighting, heating, maintenance and customer care

Understanding of health and safety regulations

Willingness to work at any other building within the Service

Willingness to attend callouts

Willingness to undertake training
